So here’s why OmniFocus still rules…

In the 24 hours I’ve been using Things to check out its test resize feature, I’m already missing:

  • Defer dates for tasks

  • The “Review” feature that OmniFocus has

  • One-button push to obtain certain available task views using OmniFocus’ Perspectives

  • End-to-end encryption (you can’t see it, but it gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling knowing it’s there).

There’s a reason that even though Things has a really nice design, I’ve stuck with OmniFocus for years now and it’s for the above points and more. I’m already feeling itchy, like this is a bit too manual of a workflow for me, regardless of how pretty Things’ UI is.

The last thing that I can see that will be a real issue is the Today view. While Things wants you to work out of that and it’s fine, the deferred tasks that I wanted to become available today are now sitting in the Today view. Multiply this by the amount of deferral that I do (necessitated by my customer outreach workflow), and you have a recipe for a bloated view that I must sift through daily.

I can see the “jiggle mode” happening for Things on my devices in 3…2…1…
